ZERO HUNGER

Pakistan faces a significant hunger problem, with millions of people lacking access to sufficient and nutritious food as it has been ranked has been ranked 99th out of 129 nations in a Global Hunger Index (GHI). Factors such as poverty, unemployment, and natural disasters contribute to food insecurity, particularly in rural areas, further causing malnutrition, perpetuating poverty, reducing productivity, and increasing the risk of diseases, while also taking a toll on mental health and well-being.

As Islam constantly teaches us to care for those around us and have an empathetic attitude towards all of Allah’s creations, so WISH has set a goal for zero hunger to ensure equitable access to food for all, reducing hunger and improving overall health, as contributing to the cause of zero hunger also brings both spiritual and social benefits. It fulfills a core principle of compassion and charity (Sadaqah) by helping those in need, is highly rewarded by Allah. Acts of generosity strengthen one's faith, purify wealth, and bring blessings (Barakah) into one's life. Additionally, by addressing hunger we’ll be able help to stabilize communities, reduce the risk of social unrest and improve overall security in the short term. While in the long term we aim for improved public health, higher educational attainment, and enhanced economic productivity as well-nourished populations are less prone to illness and more capable of contributing to the workforce. Reducing hunger will also help break the cycle of poverty, fostering social stability and sustainable development.

NO POVERTY

POVERTY in Pakistan is a pressing issue as 40% of its population lives under the line of poverty, characterized by limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. As many struggle with inadequate infrastructure and social services, contributing to high rates of unemployment and inequality. Therefore, WISH has set a "No Poverty" aim which creates a world where no one has to struggle just to survive. It’s about making sure that every person, no matter where they are born, has enough to eat, a safe place to live, and the chance to build a better life. The Holy Prophet (saw) says,

"He who sleeps with a full stomach while his neighbor goes hungry is not one of us."

— *Sahih al-Bukhari.

As this Hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasizes the strong sense of social responsibility and empathy that Islam encourages among its followers. It signifies that a person who is indifferent to the suffering of their neighbor, particularly in matters of hunger and poverty, is not truly embodying the values of the Islamic faith. Similarly, our goal is to focus on fairness and dignity ensuring that the most vulnerable among us are not left behind, but instead given the support and opportunities they need to thrive. It’s a commitment to ending the harsh reality of poverty, so everyone can live with hope and possibility. Hence, the investment towards no poverty not only improves individual lives but will also strengthen social cohesion and drive sustainable development for future generations, as Investing in education and skills training giving people the knowledge and tools they need to build a better future. Will provides immediate relief and support to those in poverty, improving their current living conditions such as setting up support systems like food programs or cash assistance to help those who are most vulnerable get by.  Aswell as, encourages a culture of compassion and ongoing support, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction and societal wellbeing.

CLIMATE CHANGE

The lack of adequate tree planting and the ongoing deforestation in Pakistan have become critical environmental issues. Our country is facing significant challenges that stem from its limited forest cover, which is currently only about 5% of its total land area. This is far below the global recommended standard of 25%, and the consequences are becoming increasingly apparent, which makes it mandatory for us to focus on making our country as green as our flag! The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)  also emphasized the importance of planting trees, saying,

"If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (Sadaqah) for him."

This Hadith highlights the lasting benefits of planting trees, which is not only considered a form of ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) but also play a crucial role in protecting the environment. In the context of climate change, planting trees helps absorb carbon dioxide, reduce greenhouse gases, and support ecosystems, aligning with the Prophet’s teachings on stewardship of the Earth. Following these stewardship of the Prophet (saw), WISH is launching a vital initiative to plant 500 trees, aiming to combat deforestation and environmental degradation. This project focuses on engaging local communities, raising awareness about the importance of reforestation, and promoting sustainable land use. By planting these trees immediate benefits such as enhancing local air quality by absorbing pollutants, providing shade that reduces temperatures and energy consumption, and improving aesthetics by greening urban areas and mental well-being by offering green spaces that promote relaxation and recreation. Overall, the positive impacts of tree planting extend for generations, fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment
